Sung by Song Ga In, Photo of my mind is a very sweet ballad which, composed to be included in the soundtrack of the drama Crash landing on you, strongly recalls the sound of North Korean music.
Song Ga In is a South Korean trot artist who began her career in high school performing pansori, a theatre genre where the story is told by a singer and a percussionist alone on stage. She then majored in Korean Traditional Music at Chung-Ang University in Seoul.
Trot is a Korean musical genre characterized by a repetitive rhythm and different vocal inflections. Created during Japanese colonialism, it was influenced first by Japanese and American music and then by European music.
