Beyond Memory: A Look at Ruthless Vows

Rebecca Ross delivers a satisfying conclusion to her enchanting duology, Letters of Enchantment, with Ruthless Vows.
Following Divine Rivals, this sequel shifts perspective, delving more into Roman‘s experience as he suffers memory loss while serving the enemy. For this very reason, the initial chapters are emotionally gripping, leaving the reader yearning alongside Iris for Roman‘s recovery.

The core of the story lies in the enduring love between the main characters, but, this pure and tenacious bond, stands in stark contrast to the toxic yet profound connection between Goods Dacre and Enva.
Roman takes the center of the stage initially, his rebellion and unwavering love are undeniably impactful, but his role diminishes later, allowing the narrative to highlight the strength of the female characters, particularly Iris and Attie.

Ross masterfully crafts the characters, both primary and secondary.
Dacre‘s awakening after a dream of Enva beautifully showcases the author’s ability to reveal hidden depths within a character, and finally meeting the Goddess allows a deeper understanding of the God’s motivations.
Attie‘s loving family dynamics shine through in their limited scenes. Even the hinted romance between her and Tobias is well-developed, leaving the readers invested in their relationship.
– As Forest‘s character evokes mixed emotions, the narrative arc dedicated to him is a satisfying choice.

Unfortunately, Keegan‘s coldness towards Iris during their initial encounter is a slight inconsistency compared to her portrayal in the first book. Additionally, her potential future role remains unclear.

While fantasy elements are present, the novel doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of war. The author in fact portrays the devastation of bombings, the horrors of war crimes, and the emotional toll on individuals. The inclusion of a multiple PoVs chapter further enriches the narrative, highlighting the losses experienced by all characters.

The ending, though somewhat predictable, offers a satisfying conclusion, leaving a lasting impression. Despite a slightly slow start, Ruthless Vows quickly draws readers into its world. The characters become like family, and the setting – Oath – feels like a cherished home. This beautifully written duology is a must-read for those seeking a captivating blend of fantasy and romance, a series that will stay with you long after the final page is turned.
